Musee Des Beaux-Arts Montreal:

Yesterday I went and examined the ‘Jean Paul Gaultier’ exhibit. I took several images, I will upload some of my favorites in a short time. Needless to say, it was absolutely breath taking. Looking at mere images, does not even begin to touch on the endless detail and timely construction that have gone into each piece! it was truly magical.

A little piece of currentness;

These are a few poems that will be part of my final project, some are inspired from Bones in Their Wings by Lorna Crozier, ghazals. From my book of ‘Scribble Dribbles’:

.

There is no song for gathering flowers.

.

With stutter it flies,

a genetic stirring.

.

The slowest go first-

.

mouthing movements

the words lift through the grass.

.

How they fear leaving the body.

.

Around the pond they’ve come from everywhere,

what gets lost?

.

The place only finds you.

Narrative Essay

Write a narrative essay about (aspect of) travel. Your narrative essay will have two core components: a story and a key theme. My suggestion is to keep your story simple and your theme as focussed as possible. also try a number of writing experiments from class

The concept of travel seems to be confused within western society.

The World Wide Web says travel is simply “changing location, a movement, and any kind of progression or proceeding” this seems interesting to me, as it is safe that most of us accomplish these actions on a daily bases. Yet I can see that society as a whole does not value these seemingly obvious activities as travelling. Other ideals of travel in western culture are “how fast does your new car go?” as provided by the web. This is rather frightening, as the concept of travel has been replaced by the word ‘vacation’ which represents some sort of tropical destination. I’m questioning this!

Defining travel on social standards has come down to the concept of a pleasurable vacationing spot, this idea of Hawaii, or even maybe the outback.

This seems wonderful and all, but its rather concerning that the values of travel can only be appreciated when away from your daily locations. This idea of self-propelled movement is something in which we take part in everyday, yet lacks this ‘vocational’ approval.

Why is this? And why is it not just as pleasurable? If it is the location that you feel compelled by, why not live where you do not have these restrictions?

Maybe I am naive to think outside from this or question the values of travel, but I feel in even my daily routines, the most satisfying part is when I am walking, rushing to work, from school, home or where, driving in a car, and just glancing out and watching everything happening around me. These moments in the day where I experience a new café, restaurant, store, or even sidewalk are providing satisfaction for me. These ideas fall under the descriptions of travel “changing location, a movement, and any kind of progression or proceeding,” these are the moments that separate the daily routines and make them unique. Enjoying the environment that comes with your day to day routines and exploring them on their own, will make them far more enjoyable for you.

That’s not to say that you never need to explore the world, or visit other countries and enjoy other cultures. This is far different from what I am exploring here, I feel that this is the side of travel that still exists, but should go hand in hand with appreciating the outside influences on your own community, routines, or even your families. Again maybe I am naive to think about these concepts in this foreign way, but before you can really appreciate these other unknown lands, shouldn’t you be able to appreciate your own?

The mass consumer on these ‘vocational packages’ seems to the ideal middle class family, there needs for an annual vacation to ‘get away from their lives.’ Or is to ignore what is possibly going on in front of them? This lack of appreciation for their surroundings, lack of time spent as a family so they venture on these cruise, flights, backpacking extravaganzas to spend their first 3 weeks together as a ‘family’ out of the whole year. I feel as though I will never understand these conformities, my guess is that it has a lot to do with media, capitalism, and potentially the detachment humans have from humane values.

How does it work?

It’s a bed! They can be found here in the late hours of the night -

Playing, jumping as they scurry.

A place they kept captive, cheese resting on it.

“How many can lay at a time?” one might ask:

1 silly, the others must wait for the next to pass.
